  • In late summer and autumn, the plant’s leaves begin to turn yellow and fall off completely. This is a natural process. In winter, the plant remains a bare tuber.
  • Once the plant sheds its leaves and loses its roots, watering and fertilizing should be discontinued. Intensive watering during this period will cause the tuber to rot. The pseudobulb may shrivel slightly – this is normal, as the plant draws water from it (occasionally, lightly mist the soil).
  • At the beginning of spring, when the new growth is over 2-5 cm tall and has developed its own, distinct roots several centimeters long, watering should be resumed.
  • Sooty mold often appears on the underside of the leaves. These are not a classic disease that infects the plant’s interior, but saprotrophs that create a black, soot- or ash-like coating that develops on the surface of the “dew” drops secreted by the plant (known as guttation). There is no need to combat it chemically because it does not infect plants, it is enough to wash them off.
